KGC recently organised 2-day workshop: Strategic Workforce Planning in the Global Economic Environment, which was held at Grand Millennium, Kuala Lumpur on 8 & 9 June 2009. This event reflected fundamental decision made by organisations to focus not just on living today but on preparing for tomorrow by investing for its people.

The workshop was facilitated by Julie Sloan, Director of Strategic Workforce Planning Australia Pty Ltd. Julie is widely regarded as Australia leading Workforce Planning practitioner. Passionate about workforce planning, Julie leads the development of discipline in Australia and has a good understanding of global workforce planning initiatives. She has provided advice and support with strategic and operational workforce planning across a diverse range of organisations and business in Commonwealth, State and Local Government sectors, across a broad range of industries and sectors and in the not-for-profit sector.

The workshop kick-started with an ice-breaking session in which Julie spoke about her past experiences, positions and roles held that contributed to workforce planning. Julie also provided snapshots of workforce planning imperative in the global economic condition. She highlighted the importance of categorising mission-critical-job, skill-shortage-job and hard-to-fill job. She emphasized management should adopt evidence-based decision making which will steer them through turbulence time.

This event was well received by both public and private sector such as JobStreet.com, Malaysian Agrifood Corporations, Ministry of Education, Open University Malaysia, PROTON Holdings Berhad, RHB Bank Berhad, Telekom Malaysia (TM), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Yeo Hiap Seng (Malaysia) Berhad.

Julie also provided solutions to delegates’ problems through demonstration of Workforce Planning and Profiling Tools, such as Workforce-Profiler and Supply Gap Calculator Tool.
