Food Safety Asia 2009 - Post Event Report Print E-mail

27 & 28 April 2009, Grand Millennium, Kuala Lumpur

Food safety is an increasingly important public health issue. Governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. These efforts are in response to an increasing number of food safety problems and rising consumer concerns.

More than 700,000 people die in the Asia Pacific region and many more are debilitated every year from single cases of food and water-borne disease

Hence, this 1-day conference, 1-day workshop was organized to facilitate a dynamic and sustainable communication, on emerging food safety issues important to all countries and identify harmonised, practical and sustainable actions to address these issues.

The conference and workshop covered a wide-range of topics from food audit, traceability, emerging pathogens, and harmonizing international compliance and regulations, with speakers from MOH, MARDI, Carrefour Malaysia, Desert Palm Resort, and Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology.

This event was well received by both government and private sector such as SIRIM, UKM, Cardburry, Indomee, Rotiboy, Yeo’s, and Singapore Food Industries to name a few.

The speakers who came from various industries provided the delegates with a range of food safety issues and solutions. The real-life example and valuable insights further added value to a program as such.
